The search for the perfect burger sometimes takes you to odd places. Like Burgeru bārs Burziņš, for example. A hole-in-the-wall hidden among residential buildings some distance away from, well, anything really, where kids and grown-ups show up on Sunday afternoon for their daily fix of french fries and Moskovskaya, respectively. Oh, and your hard-working foreigner, of course.
What's striking about this cheap n' shabby burger joint, besides such an obsession with ice hockey that the KHL bar seems subtle by comparison, is the infectiously jolly atmosphere. This is in big part thanks to the super friendly dude who takes your order and prepares your food. The place was filled with laughter and good spirits, and instantly put me in a good mood. While flippin' the burgers, he kept motormouthing, kindly informing me that ”this is a very good cheese burger!”
”INFECTIOUSLY JOLLY ATMOSPHERE”
And bloody hell, yes! The dude spoke the truth. Although I prefer the regular hamburger over the cheese burger, this is some seriously tasty junk food! I really like the buns (an important yet underrated part of any good burger), and the sauce is a big hit with me, as is the generous amount of different vegetables and salad. The flavors blend really well, letting the taste of every ingredient come through. The meat could be a bit bigger and juicier, but is by no means bad in any way. If you want more meat, however, you can order the Burziņšburgers XL, which is a downright intimidating double burger. Also, to make sure you won't forget the place, you'll walk out of there with a breath that will not help you make friends in a crowded elevator. Awesome.
