A modern classic in the true sense of the word. Tokyo City is probably the most popular restaurant franchise in Riga, regardless of cuisine. Their three restaurants are constantly packed with people, and almost everytime you go there, you'll have to stand in line for a long time before you are finally guided to an empty table. Now, why is this place so hugely popular?
Two words: awesome sushi! The sushi here is hands down the best I've ever had, which should be reason alone to come here to satisfy your cravings. However, it doesn't end there. Tokyo City also has their fantastic 2 for 1 offer on the entire sushi menu, which will give you just a ridiculous amount of food for a very low price. And speaking of ridiculous, just look at the size of their menu. I've read novels with fewer pages than this. Besides sushi and other Japanese dishes, it contains everything from burgers and fajitas to pasta and pizza. It must be said, though, that their non-Japanese stuff is nothing to write home about, but if you're going to Tokyo City to have fajitas, you're completely missing the point. No, you go here to go absolutely apeshit over sushi, wasabi and great beer (both local and Japanese).
”LEAVE YOUR PAJAMAS AT HOME”
Word of advice: leave your pajamas at home. The clientele who frequent Tokyo City are Riga's beautiful people who really dress up before going there to start their journey into the night. This is reflected in the restaurant's choice of music, which unfortunately is loud, night clubby music. Therefore, of the three restaurants I'd recommend the one in Old town, which is slightly more cosy and there's less risk that you and your company will have to shout at eachother because the music is too loud.
That being said, this is the one place you really need to go if you're in Riga. See you there!
